Safety Information
Read all safety instructions before operating your WOLF ONE system.
Electrical Safety
Power Requirements
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| BUS Barrel Port Voltage | 12-24V DC |
| BUS Maximum Current | 2A Fused |
| USB Power | 5V via Type-C |
| Node Power Consumption (Max) | 2W |
Warnings
Electrical Hazards
- Do not exceed 24V DC input - Higher voltages may damage the unit or cause fire
- Use only the supplied power adapter or a compatible 24V DC, 2.5A power source
- Do not operate with damaged cables - Inspect all cables before use
- Keep away from water and moisture - The unit is not waterproof
- Do not open the enclosure - Opening enclosure may void warranty
Grounding
- When using multiple power sources for cameras, strobes, and nodes, ground loops may occur
- If you experience erratic behavior or calibration issues, try:
- Powering all equipment from the same electrical circuit
- Using wireless trigger adapters to isolate signals
- Reducing the number of interconnected cables
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
Before handling the node:
- Touch a grounded metal object to discharge static
- Avoid working on carpet or synthetic materials
- Handle by the enclosure edges, not the ports
Operating Environment
| Condition | Specification |
|---|---|
| Operating Temperature | 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F) |
| Operating Humidity | 10% to 80% relative humidity, non-condensing |
| Intended Environment | Indoor use only |
| Ingress Protection | Not rated for water or dust ingress |
Environmental Requirements
- Indoor use only - Designed for controlled studio and production environments
- Not for outdoor use - Not intended for outdoor, wet, or high-condensation locations
- Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods or your enclosure may become discolored
Cable Safety
Maximum Cable Lengths
| Cable Type | Maximum Length | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| HowlNET (RJ45) | 100m (328 ft) | |
| USB Type-C | 3m (10 ft) | USB 2.0 |
| Camera cables | 10m (32 ft) | Varies by camera |
Cable Handling
- Do not bend cables at sharp angles
- Do not run cables under heavy objects
- Strain relief: Secure cables to prevent connector stress
- Disconnect by gripping the connector, not the cable
Firmware Updates
Firmware Flashing
- Disconnect 24V bus power before flashing
- Connect only USB Type-C to the node being flashed
- Do not disconnect during firmware update
- A failed update may require factory service
Multi-Node Systems
When daisy-chaining nodes:
- Use a single 24V power source for the entire chain
- Connect HowlNET OUT → HowlNET IN between nodes
- Ensure adequate power capacity for all nodes
Camera and Strobe Safety
Camera Port Ratings
Trigger Outputs (Camera/Mono Ports):
- Output type: Optically isolated open collector
- Maximum switching current: 50mA
- Maximum switching voltage: 24V
- Maximum power dissipation: 100mW
- Maximum reverse voltage: 5V
- No voltage generated by output (requires external pull-up)
Trigger Inputs (Input Port):
- Input voltage: 3.3V logic (pull-up)
Input Port Warning
DO NOT apply external voltage to input ports
- Input ports are for signal sensing only
- Applying external voltage may damage the node
Strobe and Flash Compatibility
- Follow your camera manufacturer's safety guidelines
- Some vintage flash units have high trigger voltages (>12V) - verify compatibility before connecting
- Allow strobes to fully recycle before triggering
